Toby Mitchell - Monsters Got Talent. Pleasance Courtyard 15/8/12. Review by Esther @ Highlights

A simple show with a nice idea – a talent show for monsters. The monster puppets audition one by one and the children decide who should go in the show and who should go in the bin. Ingredients - 5 – 6 hand/glove puppets, a table, suitcase and bin.

Performer, Toby Mitchell (Tall Stories) had a nice relaxed style but though he was really likeable, his puppets were not and lacked character. The younger children really enjoyed this show though I would say the given age range of 5 – 9yrs should be lowered by a few years. There were nods to the adults with eg David Camembert, Nick Dreggs, Rebecca Crookes, Rupert Murder etc but I don’t think this show won the adults over. The show had a rather simple, rough and ready feel to it.

The bar is high on kids shows and this show isnt up there
