Molly Naylor and the Middle Ones: My Robot Heart. Pleasance Courtyard 16/8/12. Review by Esther @ Highlights

Love and fear were the themes of this one-woman show with three interlinked stories coloured by the Middle Ones - a sort of odd, onstage, retro musical duo.

The stories are centred around the wedding of Elisa,  her 11yr old step brother who doesn’t want to go and is wrestling with issues of coolness and loyalty among his friends and the father whos struggling with his wedding speech and his health. These weave with Mollys own story – just finished with ‘perfect’ boyfriend and is exploring ‘why’ and the ‘meaning of love’.

The performance was quite warm and witty and the stories had some lovely small details that strike a chord, evoke a memory or make you smile but overall it was a bit gentle and for me, soon forgotten.

Its physically workable for rural touring
