Mr B's Chap-hop Hoorah, The Voodoo Rooms, 21 August

I went to see this for two reasons. A friend of mine got a subscription to 'The Chap' , a monthly periodical promoting gentlemanly values, for his birthday and he passes copies to me when he's read them. Secondly, Lyndsay, our company Manager saw Mr B, The Gentleman Rhymer, last year and recommend him highly.

There was a bit of a thin Tuesday night crowd but he kept us all throughout with plenty of singalong japes.

Mr B, in tweed waistcoat, silk club tie and splendid waxed moustache is accompanied by his butler, Carsholton, who frankly needs to lean how to press his own suit. (When will some Fringe performers realise that finish is important?) he reinterprets pop and rap songs on his Banjalayley along with some of his own compositions. I particularly enjoied his 'She's a model...' By Kraftwork and his Oasis medaly.

It's a good joke that can be sustained for an hour or two but so I had no desire to purchase the CDs.
This show was billed as 18+ and written for a late night fringe audience. The concept would however work quite well in a rural touring context and it might well be worth a conversation leading to a tailored show for the circuits. Branding and marketing were good and it's technically simple. He just needs a butler who knows how to press a suit!
