Captain Ko and the Planet of Rice by Dancing Brick

The piece is a triptych of three short scenes on the theme of memory and remembering.  The first is a science fiction style piece about Captain Jane Ko and her lieutenant who are exploring a distant planet, the second a study of a woman on the brink of Alzheimers and the third a look at a Russian cosmonaut who was left up in space for longer than he should have been.
A very deep and thoughtful piece, an extremely interesting piece of theatre, well performed and technically slick.  In the programme it states that it attempts to express the difficulty and fragility of our perception of time and I believe it has done that in an interesting and thoughtful way.
It didn't provoke the wild applause and reception that some of the other pieces I have seen did, however, on quiet reflection afterwards, I believe this is actually one of the most interesting and challenging pieces of theatre I have seen at the fringe this year so far.  Alzheimers is something which has touched my close family twice already, and could well touch many more people in the years to come, if all the statistics are to be believed.  It is a subject which will interest many, I am sure, and might well be an interesting one for rural touring to contemplate.
