Curious Directive 'After the Rainfall', Pleasance Dome, Fri 17 Aug 12, Review by Rosie Cross, Highlights

Review
I’m left unsure whether this was remarkably inventive piece of theatre or a bit of a muddle.  A bit of both I reckon.   I certainly overheard comments supporting both opinions on leaving the theatre.  The digital images of ants crawling over the walls/set were effective.  The physical theatre bits were mostly  successful, tipping into a bit of a jumble occasionally. The 4 strands of the narrative spanned a 70 year period from 1952 to 2022; and took us from Cumbria to Egypt via journeys to and from various museums in different countries.   The story and the overarching message(s) were complex and profound, encompassing  the communication and hierarchy of ants; the death of Queen Elizabeth II; and the issues surrounding the disposal of nuclear waste – oh, and the Empire.  But it was a good way to end my 2.5 days at Edinburgh.

Why is the work suitable or not suitable / ready for rural touring ?
No.  The technical requirements would be beyond most village halls
Why would you book them ?  or  Why wouldn’t you book them ?
I don’t think he company would be interested.  I overheard a company member saying that they were hoping that an international tour may result from their residency in Edinburgh.
Why would it be worth pursuing this company to consider work in the future? Or not  ?
no
