SINFUL – Carly Tarett, Laughing Horse, Free Sisters (Free Fringe)

Having attended a few fringe events at this point I was beginning to think that an hour was far too long for any of the acts, this one included...BUT, the breaking up of this hour into 7 sketches with clothing, prop and character changes, all acted by Carly herself made it far more palatable. The acting was good and generally humourous, with latecomers dealt with appropriately. Demonstrating the seven deadly sins through different personas and short, amusing stories, the best by far was Wrath which stopped the audience from fidgeting and got a few guffaws.
Exploring an elderly classroom helper’s view on the story of Red Riding Hood to a (nonexistent) class of innocents, it was full of bad language and very entertaining. Suitable for village halls that don’t mind a bit of bad language it would provide a mildly entertaining evening. Minimal technical equipment required as this was delivered in a yurt in a pub courtyard with Carly’s boyfriend (presumably) operating the CD player.
Footnote: Carly explained that the Pride scene which was based on a Tory MP had an alternative for those audiences sensitive to political satire.
