The Guardians ‘in equal parts delightful and unsettling’ sums it up. Absurd, silly, bizarre and pretty in your face comedy with LOADS of props – fake flowers, toddler cars, clothing, cup stands…and all things plastic and blow-up. Though it had some inspired moments, this show was more about ideas and details than characters and jokes. Ben doesn’t draw you in, he throws stuff out at you and creates a whole lot of mess in the process. Which probably accounts for the strange ending – by now bare chested and clad in pink tights and frilly pants he gets an audience member to spray paint him pink and we all follow him outside onto the back streets of Cowgate in search of ‘the humiliation stick’ – whilst the venue is cleared of the huge ‘prop’ debris’.
