Caroline Horton’s ‘You’re Not Like the Other Girls Chrissy’ touched hearts in village halls last year. Mess is a very different show. It perhaps doesn’t have quite the universal appeal of her previous show but I loved it.
Mess is a musical play about the staging of a play about her anorexia - initially hard to imagine
Mess shows the tragedy of the illness. We’re given the details of the ways in which it slowly sucks the life out of Josephine, her attempts keep control and her friend’s attempts to help her but its anything but a harrowing show. It has a trio of great characters, a quirky soundtrack and is packed with subtle and laugh-out-loud humour that makes you feel comfortable with an uncomfortable subject. A great show giving some honest insights into the condition whilst being thoroughly enjoyable. Absolutely loved it.
A more demanding set up that her previous show and i suspect many opportunities have come her way
