I wasn’t sure about this when I entered the theatre, not being a fan of the Blues and with it being entered for the National Student Drama Festival 2012, the vast majority of the audience were students. I’m glad to say my misgivings were unjustified and it was the perfect end to a thoroughly enjoyable evening (with the exception of having missed the dram of whisky at Whisky for Dafties in an effort to get to this one in time!).
The story centres around three sons in their early twenties who have just recently lost their father. Three other young men, also in their early twenties are in a Blues band. Set at the Father’s wake, with the Blues band playing, the production is interspersed with scene freezes, where either the audience is given a little bit of background or the story is altered, making it a very dynamic and witty tale.
The presentation was excellent and if the company is willing to take part in the rural touring scheme I would say it is a MUST for Cumbria. Village halls would need to be a decent size to equip 6 fellas and props and equipment and would need good sound and lighting facilities.
