Educating Ronnie, Assemby George Square

Educating Ronnie
A one man cautionary tale describing how a big and generous heart can lead to a commitment from which there appears to be no escape. Joe takes his gap year trip to Africa where he meets and befriends  Ronnie and his large  but impoverished family. Ronnie and Joe remain friends and keep in touch when Joe returns to Manchester to take up his place at University. When Ronnie gets in touch and asks Joe to help him with a contribution £20 a month towards his expensive O Level courses Joe agrees to help and thus begins a cycle of  responsibility and emotional blackmail which continues for years as Joe helps Ronnie complete his O level courses and A level courses and his degree. Joe continues to fund Ronnie when following an accident where a woman is killed by a car which Ronnie is driving. Ronnie ends up in a brutal prison (a safe haven however, from the wrath of the villagers). Joe pays a bribe to have Ronne released. The story culminates in Ronnie having helped Ronnie out with a total of Twenty Five thousand pounds.
A fantastic, moving and engaging story. With minimal set this is perfect for our venue. Fingers crossed for a tour.
