Review: The Table

Name of company Blind Summit
Name of show The Table
Genre puppetry and mask
Venue Pleasance Dome
Date 20 August
Brilliant piece which has had excellent reviews and deservedly so.   It is described as a triptych of work.
In the first piece a Japanese Bunraku puppet promises to give us the last twelve hours of Moses life in real time. The Bunraku puppet takes 3 puppeteers to operate it –  and along the way we are given a bit of a lesson in how the puppet works.  Later, the puppet tries to establish a relationship with a female cast member, who ignores him and causes him to doubt his own existence.    Great interaction between puppet, cast and audience.
In the second party of the triptych body parts come to life and are illuminated and framed in picture frames.
The third part features some storytelling done with a suitcase and written words on sheets of paper.
Looking back over this review, I feel that trying to describe this show doesn’t really work, I think it is one of those pieces that you have to experience first hand.
Really exciting puppetry work executed with faultless precision.  Lovely tongue in cheek humour, visually very exciting throughout.  Something really different.
Edgy, exciting and excellent!!!  Puppets for grown-ups!!!  The audience loved it the night I was there and it seems to be one of the hottest tickets on the fringe.
Suitable/ready for rural touring - Yes, I would imagine this could be toured relatively easily
Would you book them - Yes, dependent on cost, of course.
Would it be worth pursuing this company to consider work in the future Yes, definitely

Any other comments  Might be a difficult sell in terms of trying to sell puppets to adults, but worth the effort, I feel.
