Review Me, myself and Miss Gibbs

Name of company Francesca Millican-Slater
Name of show Me Myself and Miss Gibbs
Genre one woman show
Venue Hill Street Theatre
Date 20 August
This hour long one woman show was an entertaining and endearing piece.  The performer recounted her eight year long relationship with a Miss Gibbs who first became known to her as a name on a postcard which she bought in a second hand shop down in the South West of England.  Her subsequent journey of genealogical detective work too her to Lincoln (where the postcard was originally posted) and to Southwark in London, to the address on the postcard.  Using film of her 8 year younger self and overhead projection, the piece was nicely paced and the performer built a good rapport with the audience.  In following the life of this woman who lived in the early part of the twentieth century, the performer uncovered many interesting historical facts linking Miss Gibbs life to a larger historical and social context.  She seems to have built a genuine connection with the woman, even though there was never any actual connection between them originally.  Her research is ongoing and I feel the piece will continue to develop.
Suitable/ready for rural touring - Yes, I feel this would be an interesting rural touring piece and provides something a little different from the normal fare.
Would you book them - Yes, I would book this.
Would it be worth pursuing this company to consider work in the future Yes.

Any other comments  Possible audience development links to family history societies.
