Review: Ovid's Metamorphoses

Name of company Pants on Fire
Name of show Ovid's Metamorphoses
Genre Theatre
Venue Pleasance Dome
Date 21 August
Brilliant piece, reworking classical mythology and setting it in the 1940s Second World War era.  Extremely clever use of various theatrical devices, - the sliding doors (which took on a life of their own and which moved to the side to reveal stunning tableaux poses), projected images, puppetry (extemely well done), period music and original use of props (for example gas mask and rubber gloves as udders to turn a woman into a cow)  Everything had been intelligently thought through and was acted with absolute precision by this young and talented cast.
There was a great sense of period style in the production – capturing the elegance of the era.  An absolute joy from start to finish.  The production has won prestigious awards, apparently, and deservedly so.
My promoter raved about it so much I felt I had to go and see it for myself, too – even though it wasn’t on my original schedule.
Suitable/ready for rural touring yes (dependent on cost, of course)
Would you book them yes
Would it be worth pursuing this company to consider work in the future yes
