Review 101

Name of company Oneohone
Name of show 101
Genre  theatre (interactive)
Venue C venues
Date 20 August

This was immersive theatre, both promenade and participatory.  For us it was a bit full on and a shock to the system for our first show at  11.00am in the morning.   I believe it is one of a trilogy of similar plays.
Before entering the theatre space we were asked to identify ourselves with a white bandage tied around our wrist or neck and told that we were able to opt out of participating at any point in the performance.  Once entering the performance space we were immediately involved in a total experience, very atmospheric, totally encapsulating, the audience were completely involved and indeed contributed to the experience.  At the beginning we were not really sure who were the actors and who were the audience, although that gradually became clearer.  We had to make choices and join in discussions.
It was physically quite demanding (for the audience) so probably not suitable for anyone with a physical disability (we had to kneel, lie on the floor, hold our hands above our heads ).
This was very different, but enjoyable in a thought-provoking way.  As the story unfolded around us there were references to the Beauty and the Beast story, but the piece also asked huge questions about religion, faith, trust,  and truth.  Quite a large cast of young people.  This piece pushed back the boundaries of theatre and I loved it.  Powerful stuff.
Suitable/ready for rural touring possibly not due to the large cast
would you book them yes possibly would appeal to a young promoters group but would depend on the cost of such a large cast
Would it be worth pursuing this company to consider work in the future yes this is definitely a company to watch for the future.
